Aot characters as philosophical schools of thought

-A thread I've been meaning to do-

It's important to study their philosophies to understand who they are as individuals

I can't go too much into details in this thread so I suggest reading abt it to get a better insight
>Epicureanism

"With the Epicureans it was never science for the sake of science but always science for the sake of human happiness" -Epicurus

"Epicurus advocated living in such a way as to derive the greatest amount of pleasure possible during one's lifetime."
>Existentialism

"If something burns your soul with purpose and desire. It's your duty to be reduced to ashes by it." - Charles Bukowski

"It emphasizes the existence of the individual person as a free, responsible agent determining their own development through acts of will."
More existentialist characters
>Realism

"True realism consists in revealing the surprising things which habit keeps covered and prevents us from seeing." - Jean Cocteau

"Realists believe that reality exists independent of the human mind. Truth is objective-what can be observed."
>Stoicism

"Stoicism is about the domestication of emotions, not abt their elimination." - Nassim Nicholas Taleb

"Stoicism teaches the development of self-control and fortitude as a means of overcoming destructive emotions."
>Existential nihilism

"The absolute knowledge attainable by man is that life is meaningless" -Leo Tolstoy

"Existential nihilism is the idea that life cannot have meaning and nothing has value."
>Idealism

"It is the style of idealism to console itself for the loss of something old with the ability to gape at something new." -Karl Kraus

"An idealists is a person who represents things as they might or should be, rather than as they are."
>Naturalism

"When one tugs at a single thing in nature, he finds it attached to the rest of the world."

"Naturalism is the belief that only natural laws govern the structure of the natural world, and that the changing universe is at every stage a product of these laws."
>Sadism

"Pleasure is sweetest when it's paid for by another's pain." - Ovid

"Sade's philosophy is a philosophy of the superego released. The eroticism and violence are merely expressions of his conception of subjectivity based on pleasure and a return to the state of nature."
Smt I've noticed to be particularly entertaining is that once you've categorized the characters into these groups it's a lot easier to pin them against eachother and reflect

For example the difference and similarities between realism (Erwin) and idealism (Floch)
Also smt important. Just because some characters share a similar philosophy it does not make them "the same" because a lot of other factors come into play.

The way they evolve (regress/ progress), their situation, their current objectives, their personalities, their values etc.
Final thing most characters (like Annie for ex.) have evolved and learned to outgrow their own philosophy as the story progressed.

Also others can seem to fit into more than one place but I've decided to put them in what is to me the dominating idea that drives their character.
This is what I've got for now

If anything else comes to mind I'll add it

Also feel free to leave in your input if you disagree with anything

And sorry if I didn't mention everyone. Some characters are harder for me to class.
Aot's characters are pretty flushed out so really any character can be analysed with enough subject matter to be able to decipher what their philosophy might me

If you have one for a character I didnt mention do share.

K anyways bye
