First time getting @MattHarvey33 off the mound after 3 days of heavy spin work. Main focus was to get that carry FB back from 13-15 (18V). From 18-20 his FB carry was only 12V at the same velo. Getting the carry back was the main focus to bring back that electric FB. Today: 18V
In addition to the carry 4SFB, the development of an elite sinker will allow him to now dominate his arm & glove sides. Carrying the ball at 18V to the glove side & sinking it at 19H 8V to the arm side. Combine this with his already plus velo (93-97 in 20) and the rise begins.
If you look at his heat maps from 13-15 & 18-20, he commanded the 4SFB to identical spots with similar velo, but the diminished vertical break made it a pitch that didnât fair well in these locations anymore. Now with that carry profile back, it opens up the top of the zone.
You can see from this fastball in 2020 the dead spin/run (12V, 12H). Without heavy horizontal or heavy vertical break, fastballs in general donât fare very well. You can see how it dies with the loss of 6 VB, compared to the video I will follow with below. #Harvey
Now with this FB from 2015 you can see the difference in trajectory compared to the previous pitch. No dead run, no depth, just backspun with 18V up in the zone. Oh, and itâs 100. Weâll get to that later. #Juice
A thought on why this occurred. Left, you can see he opens early forcing his fingers to not stay behind the ball, and a small yank forces him inside the ball too much. Compared to â15, the arm works deeper and allows the fingers to drive down the back of the ball longer.
In addition to the movement profile adjustments, as we continue to move more efficiently, clean up the backside engine, and then properly load that engine, we will have an entirely new mechanism. The team that signs this guy is going to be a very happy org. The Dark Knight Rises
