Reece James, a thread

Okay so since he started his career properly at Wigan and he was a star for them, i’ll focus on when he was playing for them first..

He played 45 games for Wigan, having just been promoted back to the championship. There isn’t an awful lot to say about his time at Wigan though but he was highly respected there.

He scored 3 goals in his time at Wigan, and just the 2 assists. so it doesn’t seem like a lot, but there is a reason the fans loved him.

At Wigan, he averaged:
1.7 tackles per game
0.8 interceptions per game
1.2 fouls per game
0.6 dribbles per game
Overall a 7.01 match rating!

Being at a bigger club which obviously brings bigger responsibility to defend and that is a huge responsibility for a youngster in a league as hard as the PL.

Played 41 games. In that time this is how his in depth stats come out. Remember he has been a RB or RWB, despite his age, he has been whatever we needed him to be game by game..

There isn’t a lot in the stats between the 2 years but to make it more realistic to now in the present time, here are the stats for just 2020/21 season..

Shooting: 23 shots, 9 shots on target, 39.1% on target. Average distance 21.2 yards. 1 goal (we all remember it).

Passing: Completion rate is 83.7% overall but what is very interesting is the difference between 19/20 and 20/21..
In 19/20 he successfully made 193 long passes in 1515 minutes. In 20/21 he successfully made 205 long passes in 1372 minutes. Not a huge jump but it’s a step forward

Defensively- Last season vs This season

Tackles -
19/20 - 2.77 per game
20/21 - 2.92 per game

Tackles in the Defensive 3rd
19/20 - 1.32 per game
20/21 - 1.90 per game

Clear improvement.

In terms of possession play, his dribble success rate in 2019/20 was 73.7% making 1483 touches (which if i’m honest isn't bad at all). This year it is 75% success with 1348 touches.

As i said earlier, his passing completion was 83.7%. However. Under Tuchel, it has been 88.5%. Not just passing though, his dribble success is 88.88% under Tuchel.

That’s where i will leave it and just want to say i hope Reece is a part of our future, this is just the start of his career which is yet to come
