I never got the talk from my parents — anything I learned about sex ed came from school
I was not and still am not allowed to date (my parents say it’s to avoid distractions but I’m sure they have ulterior motives)
Sex is something that should not and will not be discussed

The idea that I would want to live with a person before marrying them is insane to them
Even the idea of me kissing a boy or ever dating more than one person in my lifetime is insane to them
Anything romantic or sexual is something my parents won’t touch with a 10 foot pole

While my parents have held the same standards for both me and my brother in this regard, I’m sure my parents would flip the fuck our way more if they found out I was dating someone versus my brother if he were my age
*out
When I was in India, I was told to cover up because boys would stare at me, but my brother was never told to cover up
I cannot wear tank tops in 35-40 degree weather when I go
My brother can wear shorts but I cannot

Women are told to cover up because men will stare, but men are not taught to not fucking stare and not be creeps
Watch me not be able to do so when I go to India this or next summer despite being a grown fucking adult because god forbid immature boys not stare at my SHOULDERS
your romantic or sexual endeavors do not make you any less ‘pure’ or less of a person, yet it feels like south Asian culture is obsessed with this ‘purity’ — saving everything for one person and until marriage
south Asian parents will preach marriage and becoming a mother but nothing about dating or sexual exploration, despite that being important aspects of marriage and creating a family
you have to get married, but dating? heaven forbid
you have to get married, but dating? heaven forbid
anyways it’s goddamn fucking embarrassing how far behind south asian culture is in terms of removing the stigma around sex and sexuality and it makes me so sad and so angry
WE MADE A WHOLE ASS BOOK JUST FULL OF VARIOUS SEX POSITIONS BUT THE IDEA OF A WOMAN SHOWING OFF HER SHOULDERS IS FUCKING SCANDALOUS??
also the difference between north and south India is sometimes fucking wild in this regard too

even looking at music videos, bollywood music videos seem a lot more free in terms of how women dress and the incorporation of romantic or sexual themes compared to tollywood for example
like growing up, none of the tollywood movies I saw had characters kissing
ADULTS DON’T *EVER* KISS?? NEVER??
This whole idea of acting shy and reserved in terms of romantic or sexual expression was pounded into my head from a young age from the media I watched
