This season, we charged Russell Wilson with 14 total sacks that were "on him," tied for second-most in the league (plus he had two more in the playoffs).

While QBs are probably responsible for more like 50-70% of sacks, these plays are ones in which QB is to "blame" (1/6)
Week 1, Wilson sits in a clean pocket and takes the unnecessary sack (and big hit).

Has an open receiver beyond the sticks and either doesn't see it or passes it up.

O-Line should not be asked to block this long
Week 3, another one where Wilson could do a better job of workign quicker through his reads and manipulating the pocket.

Instead, he drifts into left tackle's block, making him "look bad."

(This is not on left tackle Duane Brown)
Seahawks in empty against a four-man rush. Another play where Wilson is too slow to get to his checkdowns and the offensive line is not at fault.

This pocket is clean
This one is a screen. It looks like quick pressure, but that's by design.

Wilson needs to bury it, but he drifts into a sack instead.
Last example.

Giants in zone coverage, take away Wilson's first reads. That's fine, but another one where he does have options if he works quicker through progressions.

Has the checkdown, instead vacates pocket backwards and loses 15 yards
Those are just a few examples of unnecessary hits that Wilson took that are clearly more his fault.

Now, his offensive line's have also been pretty bad. He's never had an OLine rank above 18th in @PFF pass block grades.

Seahawks three things to cut down on Russ' hits....
1. Russ must make quicker decisions, cut down on unnecessary sacks/hits

2. Better pass protection

3. Receivers who get open quickly and schematic changes that use that skillset
Again, QBs are the primary driver for sack totals.

We charge QBs when it's all on them for either vacating a clean pocket, failing to obviously throw the ball away, drifting into pressure, etc.
