John Fetterman claimed in a statement to the that his holding up of a Black jogger with a firearm has been pushed by Republicans to attack him in bad faith. But at least one Democratic operative said Fetterman's colleagues just haven't used it often. https://www.penncapital-star.com/blog/fetterman-justifies-but-does-not-apologize-for-chasing-down-and-brandishing-shotgun-at-black-jogger-while-braddock-mayor/
This gets at why I wrote this story on Fetterman's campaign earlier. Fetterman has not faced a lot of bad press. Now, facing a 15 month campaign for a key Senate seat, he must be prepared for a burning hot spotlight on his entire career. https://www.penncapital-star.com/government-politics/fettermans-early-2022-entrance-gives-him-time-to-build-strength-or-set-up-his-fall/
The best explanation for why it took so long for Fetterman to face this story was from Philadelphia politico Mustafa Rashed. Regardless of how voters and the press treated this story in 2016 or 2018, he said in the post-George Floyd world, it's worthy of more attention.
Now, ideally, I'll get to forget about John Fetterman for a few days and return to cover my true love — the Pennsylvania General Assembly.
