I’m getting royally irritated with the hyperbolic language being used to talk about kids and learning coming from folks like @halfon4harlowMP . Today I had to film an assembly picking up the pieces of what this downright dangerous behaviour is doing to our children. Stop. Enough.
In reality this political buffoonery is negatively impacting on CHILDREN. It’s making them feel worthless, like failures, like whatever they do, they’re screwed. What this means in reality is they’re staying up all night, working themselves into the ground with worry and 2/n
Huge levels of anxiety. They are children. They know that this is bad. They don’t need political willy waving about “who cares most” when, the reality is, if those people did care, they wouldn’t be acting in the appalling ways that they are. 3/n
You know what? These kids are doing a bloody brilliant job. They’re learning from home, in a pandemic, in a lockdown, without a teacher there with them. That’s enough. It’s incredible. They have resilience the likes of which we’ve never seen before. 4/n
They’re incredible and they inspire me.
So, please, if you’re engaging in this downright damaging narrative, think twice. You’re harming kids in the process. It’s shameful and it needs to stop.
5/5 - I hope. I might not be finished on my soap box just yet.
