So here is the study they are using to base their CDC recommendation for double masking.

1. A tightly fit regular surgical mask blocks 95% of all viral particles.
THAT IS ONLY ONE MASK.
THAT IS ONLY ONE MASK.
Now, the test with one mask vs two is when there is a second person in the room NOT WEARING A MASK.
That is a critical thing to note.
That is a critical thing to note.
When you single mask, a cloth mask actually blocks slight more particles from a cough than a surgical mask (44.3% vs 42%). When you double mask, your cough is 92% blocked (which makes sense, since a cough forces air through the mask; two masks would be better).
So, basically, the only time double masking seems to have significant benefit is if you, yourself, are coughing; then, it is recommended to double mask to protect others.
On the other hand, double masking in this study didn't really show a huge amount of benefit to the masker.
So what do I take from this?
If this is the study they used to make this national guideline...man, this is a pretty weak case to make.
If you are coughing, don't double mask: STAY AT HOME. That is a far better message.

SOCIAL DISTANCING IS ALWAYS BETTER THAN MASKS.
I mean, if you are coughing, why is the govt telling us to double mask?
STAY THE F$#&@# HOME.
