People who get called out on writing problematic reviews often fall back on the argument "would you rather have no coverage at all?!?!" Honestly? Yes. I would rather you not drape your racism all over someone else's hard work. 1/
Reviews that trafficking in racism, sexism, queer/transphobia/etc do more harm than good, especially for underrepresented identities. It makes it harder for good rep stories to be told - bc publishers and editors don't want stories that won't sell to the majority. 2/
Reviews have consequences. They don't exist in a vacuum. Moreover, pubs like Locus carry more weight than a goodreads review. Someone who writes for them has the responsibility to do the work well and not use that power to double-standard BIPOC authors. 3/3
