The response to COVID has veered wildly from “who cares” to “black death level shutdown” and its just aggravating
“We’re going to shut it all down, ok maybe some of it, ok no shut downs, ok now we’re shutting it all down again, oh exercise is banned, wait now it’s not, masks are bad, no they are good.”
I understand, of course, the need to adjust in light of new information. But this is pretty clearly more “drunkenly firing a shotgun in random directions” than actual methodical policy crafting to address the problem.
I am no doctor. But this is an illness that is spread by airborne droplets yes? Such concentrations necessarily are lower outdoors and even lower, if not absent when alone, yes?
I think it’s pretty clear at this point that solo outdoor exercise is no less safe than staying in complete lockdown.
Here’s the thing, even if these adjustments may bring some tiny additional benefit such as ten less cases, the inconsistency and constant shifting of policy in the end will lead to people just saying “you know what, hell with it”
At a certain point, you just have to say “this is what we’re doing, unless something suggests we absolutely must change the policy to avoid catastrophe, we’re going to stick with it even if it isn’t perfect.”
