If I could give 29-year old me writing advice, it would be: you can either keep writing these short stories or buckle up and write a novel. It might suck, but you'll have written a novel. And then you can write another. And novels are the only unit of fiction with...
...even a 1 in 100 chance of getting you within spitting distance of an actual writing career with a big 5 publisher.
If you're going to keep writing short stories for years together, study markets. Wanna write spec fic? Read F&SF, Strange Horizons, Clarkesworld...
...try and do an MFA. Get out of India. Or stay in India but stick to novels. Literary or high concept. Move to Delhi. Get a pad in Hauz Khas.
Just don't spend a decade writing less and less categorisable short fiction. Don't start reading translated literature...
...please please don't start writing poetry, whatever you do.

Or accept right now that you will never really have a writing career, excise ambition and jealousy from your heart, and carry on as you will.
