I don't understand why people freak out about "Manhattanization"

As someone who grew up in Manhattan, there are many benefits to living in Manhattan:

🧵
🚇 Frequent, fast public transit, no need for a car
🚶🏻‍♂️ Streets with large sidewalks making it easy to walk
🏬 Retail on every street, many places open 24/7
👯‍♂️ A very diverse population, hosting people from around the world
🏞 Many beautiful public parks
This also benefits seniors. Seniors don't need to drive to obtain daily essentials.
Also worth mentioning the environmental benefits of having people not drive. Saves a lot of CO2 emissions.
Sure there are disadvantages of living in Manhattan. Traffic and car noise can be quite frustrating. But there are ways to fix this, mainly by making streets car-free.
If anything, we need to double down on what makes this city great.

Expanding public transit, bringing down the cost of living thru a large expansion of housing stock, enabling more people to start small businesses in the city.
Anyways, those are my thoughts on what makes Manhattan great.

Would you support "Manhattanization" in your backyard? I'm curious to know.
