I'm going to type out a few of my personal takeaways after publishing this report. Quick🧵 https://twitter.com/jaredlholt/status/1359497230248538115
First off, I don't think there's been enough examination of Jack Posobiec's role in Stop the Steal. He was the first person we found tweeting about the campaign and he plugged it on Election Day. How much did he know and when did he know it?
Second, on Twitter, there was a fairly clear network of people who pushed this campaign aggressively. Same question: what did they know, and when? Some of these figures are fairly prominent in Trump World.
Third, the danger signs of the Stop the Steal campaign were already clear. In Georgia, conspiracy theorists and white nationalists had already entered a capitol building for the cause (though nonviolently that time).
The lines between mainstream GOP figures and extremists were incredibly blurred during Stop the Steal. One example we found that I think shows that clearly is the Arizona GOP chair cribbing language from a prominent QAnon figure.
When Trump called for a Jan. 6 protest in Washington, websites for organizing the event sprung up the same day. Caravans were planned, etc. It begs the question of how involved the Trump White House was with planners of Stop the Steal.
