Good example of echo chambers: I think I’m decently well known in infosec and ICS security. When I go visit folks working at the plants, get out to the field - they have no clue who I am. Don’t need to. All they care about is if I’ve shown up to help and have insights to share.
What they don’t want is some asshole (me in this scenario) showing up to tell them how they’re doing “everything” wrong in security when they’re working long hard hours under resourced on their actual mission.
But with some empathy (and often a case of beer and box of doughnuts) and some perspective on what I’ve seen work that helps them with achieving their mission - they light up - and we get real work done. If you want to get work done in security, learn empathy first
