#Deznat The ignorance of Laman and Lemuel: Jerusalem had been besieged by Babylon for 3 months and eventually captured. Just years before, the land had been overrun by Egyptians helping assyria and losing.

And within a year, they're complaining to Nephi that the Jews were safe/
What would posess them to see so much political turmoil and upheaval and think the Jews were safe from destruction?

A: wickedness. Selfish wickedness. Being arrogant to think that a person's own power and skill is adequate for success in life. This is akin to idolatry. 2/
"my own hands have made this great thing, I can do anything, I will worship the work of my own hands".

This turns a focus off of cooperation with others, especially with God, and onto a person's own self. This becomes a black hole that swallows anyone.

In our modern world 3/
We have not escaped this trap of human nature. We worship sex, sexuality, diversity, sports, government, and safety.

These things are not bad in themselves, but loving them more than the stable relationships that actually promote the creation of life will lead to our fall 4/
Thank God for the stable and quiet majority of people who set their sights on God, family, and their community (in that order) who keep society functioning. #DezNat
