Ancient Romans used to have 3 meals a day. The first one known as "Jentaculum" was very similar to our breakfast and it was served at 8-9 am. It was a very light meal: bread, oil, salt, cheese, fruit, milk and honey. ⬇️

Some children used to stop by a "pistor dulciarius" (bakery) to buy a sweet focaccia before school. The second meal of the day was called "Prandium" (lunch) and it was served at noon. It was a very quick meal often eaten at a "thermopolium" (take away restaurant). ⬇️ #ancientrome
They used to have cold fish/meat, vegetables, fruit and bread. The last and most important meal of the day was the "Cena" (dinner). Poor families used to have just "pulmentum" (a sort of soup made with flour, vegetables and legumes)⬇️

Rich families used to throw parties in the "Triclinium" (dining/living room). In the center of the room there was a table full of delicious foods: boiled eggs, olives, vegetables, oysters, roasted meat, fish, bread and the beloved "mulsum" (wine mixed with honey). #romanhistory
