In the past year I've had to write rejection feedback to people who had applied for funding & also myself receive rejection for freelance gigs I've applied for (hello karma). A friend suggested the following to help cope with rejection & it's helping so I am sharing....(thread)
1) It is okay for it to hurt. You will have spent energy & effort in an application. It's okay to feel wounded. Don't let it knock you off your axis though.
2) Look at Jia Jing's talk which can help you distance work rejection from rejection of you as a person
Remember your values. Focus on whether you are staying true to your values. Concentrate less on the output but how it fed into your growth and learning and contributed to your values.
Explore Carole Dwek's fixed or flexible mindset. Lots of good short videos if reading the book isn't your thing.
Write not what you have achieved in the past year but what you've done i.e. I wrote 3 applications instead of I was turned down for 3 applications. Look at that list and then remind yourself you did that during a pandemic, in lockdown, with grief, fear and confusion to manage.
Don't let rejection knock you off your axis, stay true to yourself, you will have accomplished so much more than you imagined, rejection doesn't mean no one loves you or your work!
