In Mara and Serengeti ecosystems, hyenas outnumber lions three to one and boy do they take advantage of their numbers.

Hyenas will wait for the lions to do a kill and trust you me, lions go for bigger prey because they are stronger and can use their weight to their advantage which is different from cheetahs who are specialist killers and super fast.

Once the kill is done hyenas will gang up and really terrorize the lions to give up their prey but atleast they fair much better than their younger distant cousins the cheetahs. The lions will use their paws to cause serious damage on hyenas on the contrary, hyenas need jaw grip.

Both hyenas and lions are sworn mortal enemies and add to the mix leopards. Those three will never ever eveeeer get along. So how do they sort their beef out? Why wait for the enemy to attack you in the future when you can do so right now when they are young...

The most brutal actions I have witnessed is how the young ones of leopards, lions, hyenas and even cheetahs (thread for another day) get killed. There is torture porn and there is that and the killings can get you emotional.

Hyenas smoke out lion cubs and also vice versa whether innocent or not, leopards too they are not spared either and if there is a young one and there is a prey the three would rather kill the cubs rather than the prey.

It doesnt even end there, all the three will attack their own to mark their territory. Lions shine here. They will never start a relationship on a 1-0 or 2-0 basis... what if the cubs grow and finish their step dad? They kill all the cubs with no mercy.

This atleast gets the female back on heat and it can sire it's (the lion) cubs. Leopards have been known to do so even though the female leopard is predominantly lone parent they will prefer siring with a male that already has another cub with it to protect the younger cub.

Hyenas are different though get this, the male will eat the young one not for the female to sire another one but because it was hungry and was left with the young ones. Part of the reason why the female hyena is physically larger stronger than the strongest male.

But the three enemies if put in the same area is a recipe for disaster and the war spirals and affects even cheetahs. Most cheetah cubs die before they reach 3 months further putting a dent on their dwindling population because lions and leopards and hyenas DGAF about cheetahs.

Cheetahs are the innocent bystanders even when they are minding their business. It is what it is in the wild though. The opportunity we get is to just watch nature playing itself as it should be. La Fin!
