This is a new low for Germany. If you want to build Nord Stream 2, fine. But Germany didn't just commit atrocities against Russians and we can't count the Ukrainians we massacred for Moscow to justify a pipeline that hurts Ukraine. It's absurd.

President Steinmeier knows that Nazi Germany terrorised Russians as well as Ukrainians, Poles, Belarusians and many more. This isn't about a lack of education. It's the logical culmination of Germany's obsession with Russia at the expense of its other neighbours

Not only are we not counting Ukrainian deaths for Ukraine, we assign all Soviet deaths to Moscow to use them against Kyiv. Really take a moment to consider just how messed up this is

Since people have asked me for the full German quote: Steinmeier is asked about Nord Stream 2, says he supports it and then justifies his position by referencing the Soviet war dead. He does not use the word "owe" but he's clearly trying to use history to justify Nord Stream 2
