Another step forward for the new @TfL Piccadilly line trains as @SiemensMobility awards the first £50m in contracts for the manufacturing site in Goole – with the majority going to Yorkshire businesses. Yorkshire-based @GMIConstruction has won the £40m main site contractor and will also construct the 4.5 kilometres of rail track needed to connect to the main railway line. (2/7)
The Goole site will create up to 700 direct jobs, a further 250 roles during the construction phase, and an additional 1,700 supply chain opportunities. We hope factory building work can start in spring and the factory can open in 2023. (3/7)
This is just one example of TfL’s supply chain across the country – from Yeovil to Inverness. Our data showed last year that TfL contracts are worth £6.4bn to the UK economy, with more than £2bn spent outside London. (4/7)
TfL’s supply chain supports around 4,000 UK firms nationwide, and our investment programme on the Tube alone supports around 43,000 UK jobs. (5/7)
It’s a similar story on @Crossrail, which is expected to generate at least £42bn for the UK economy. Over 60% of its suppliers are based outside London. (6/7)
This is why investment in London’s transport network is a no-brainer – it means TfL can let major contracts that benefit the whole of the UK. (7/7)
