the epilogue of magical halloween is the same as the scene in neverland where shu & mika have that talk in the garbage in the alleyway...........it is time for a mini analysis essay
magical halloween - mika tells shu that he wants to always be here for him, and shu can't understand why he would want to be.
also i find it interesting that mika mentions the first time they met in the garbage dump here too.
neverland - shu tells mika that he wants to support him in the same way mika did for him and mika doesn't get it either.
and of course, they are sitting in what is probably a garbage dump here; this always comes up when they have these conversations.
i believe the tanabata festival was a recent event in comparison to magical halloween so that means ofc valkyrie was still trying to recover, and shu was very stressed abt that so mika was trying to reassure him
now, since mika is trying to be human and shu is having him do more of the heavy lifting for valkyrie, he is obviously stressed. like shu says in the last two screens, he wants to help mika the same way he used to when shu was anxiously trying to carry valk
their communication issues baffle me bc they are literally pouring their hearts out to each other and the other is just like. *stares blankly * huh??????

LIKE BITCH WHAT DON'T U GET ABT "I WANT TO RETURN THE LOVE & UNDERSTANDING U HAVE GIVEN ME"???????
but here's the thing.

shu in magical halloween prob didn't understand bc he recognizes that he was suffocating nazuna & mika (unbeknownst to him, mika didn't take it as badly due to his mindset of idolizing shu).
so he's prob thinkin like. why the hell are u still attached to me??? i have never been nice to u??? why would u go that far for me when i am clearly not worth it??
back to what mika says here, it's obvious that he has always idolized shu. he sees him as a savior of sorts. all he saw was someone picking him up and offering him nice things and a nice place to stay. it makes sense why he'd want to support him, but shu only sees the negatives
mika in neverland, however, is trying to be more human but he's super self conscious abt being independent. he doesn't trust his ability to make his own decisions and he can't come up with ideas bc he's being too hard on himself, trying to ensure shu will always like his ideas
it seems he's actually felt this way for a while since in human comedy, he says he wants to live up to shu's expectations when he works on their outfits. he implies he thinks shu will want to throw him away if he can't, which may explain some of his constant stress in neverland
BUT i don't think he notices how shu tries to ease his perfectionism when it means that it will be helping mika grow. he allowed mika to make the outfits in human comedy and may have wanted to change some things but he didn't. bc he wanted it to be solely Mika's art.
shu entrusted mika with nearly everything during neverland, which is smth he would Never have done before. what mika doesn't realize is that shu doesn't care as intensely abt What art mika is creating, as long as he is creating it-- which is why mika questions shu here.
back to human comedy, when mika asks shu abt his work, he tells him he didn't do Bad. he recognized some growth mika went through by setting up the live. he really didn't have much of anything bad to say at all.
clearly mika doesn't need to be As Worried As He Is, but he really feels like he has to live up to his expectations and create art that is of the same level as shu's
u could say maybe akira is fucking bad at writing (u would be correct) and that he's just making mika out to be fucking dumb during the neverland scene, but i think mika is too caught up in feeling unable to meet shu's standards to understand why shu would want to support him
tl;dr - these bitches think they aren't good enough for each other & that's prob an aspect of the basis of their miscommunications
it is midnight and my brain kinda fuzzy so idk if all of this is coherent but yea. here were some of my thoughts, congrats if u made it through them. i feel like i talked more abt mika but neverland is farther into the story and also i'm a kinnie (sorry)
