Morning twitter I just thought I would put this in the twitter world. Last night (yes I’m sad) I compared the amount of money I spent on fuel over an annual period on my new house (5 bed semi, stone walls 160m2) that’s runs on a non condensing oil boiler est 16 years old vs my
Old house (mid terrace 3 bed 100m2 brick walls) gas condensing boiler with load comp. Both have loft insulation and double glazing. Annual gas boiler cost per year were £1125 and oil consumption where I have a 1250ltr oil tank that was topped up 3 times with an annual cost of
£1050. I’m just amazed by my findings. My gas fired combi plumed like a monster and was never set up correctly but at high end kit on it and yet the oil boiler is really basic system old st699 controller basic room stat and old trv. The only reason I decided to do this is I want
To upgrade my system and future proof my property ie install larger rads (they are old and rusting) to enable my house to renewable ready at 40deg flow temps. My oil boiler is old yes but it works well and it looks like it’s outperformed the rads in the house so my thoughts are
New system balanced restricting the oversized rads to the flow temp (heat requirement of the room) so I’m asking could this be the most cost affective solution for the retrofit of the future. Image if you have a gas condensing boiler and it’s set up correctly with low temps 🧐😃
