WARRIORS-SPURS REWATCH THREAD
Haven't done one of these in a while (covered the Warriors-Mavs game and got preoccupied w/ other things), so let's do one for this win.
Starting w/ Stephen Curry, out of Horns, setting a backscreen for Juan Toscano-Anderson, drawing a foul.

Spurs defended split action in the 1st game well -- expected from someone of Gregg Popovich's caliber.
So Steve Kerr counters with this: a disguised multi-layered split action, using Bazemore's cut as a decoy, flowing into typical split action for Curry, then JTA slipping inside

Kerr called this layup from Curry as "Jordan-esque."
And I agree lol what a ridiculous shot

Curry started out cold from 3-point range, so I thought it was pretty smart of him to not force it and to try getting some points inside. It would pay off eventually.
Short-roll Draymond doing his thing. No rim-protection makes this hard for the Spurs to guard by staying home on their assignments, so help must come from somewhere to prevent a layup. It comes from the weak-side corner, where Damion Lee is stationed. Easy find by Draymond.
Spurs defense in this possession wasn't bad, but excellent ball movement from the Dubs here, getting a shot through simple drive-and-kick offense.
Just gonna quote myself on this one. A staple set play that ideally gets Kelly Oubre an alley-oop. https://twitter.com/JoeViray90/status/1359337866774552578
Warriors hunt for Rudy Gay to switch onto Curry, who takes him off the dribble and penetrates easily for the layup.
Simple downscreen for Curry, and the thing about this is that Jakob Poeltl elects to drop instead of meeting Curry at the level of the screen.
Don't know if they were afraid of a JTA cut inside, or they were banking on Curry missing? Either way, drop defense against Curry = bad.

Warriors take a break from short-roll Draymond and give short-roll JTA a try.
It's the little things that go unnoticed most of the time; an example is in this possession. JTA sets an off-ball drag screen for Curry, which forces the switch onto Poeltl. They immediately get the ball to Curry, who exploits the matchup.
Draymond goes coast-to-coast for the layup. You gotta love it when he's aggressive like this, and it's a good sign that he's getting his conditioning back to the ideal level.
Another instance of Draymond's near-telepathic connection with Curry.
This seems like a minor detail, but it's an example of Draymond knowing the tendencies of his opponent. He gets switched onto DeMar DeRozan, and w/ the shot clock winding down, DeRozan looks to bait a foul w/ a pump fake.
Draymond, however, is too smart of a defender to bite.

Curry-Green PnR leads to Curry penetration. Four defenders collapse, including the weak-side defender who has to split the difference between Oubre and JTA. Kick out to JTA, swing to Oubre, corner 3.
Just a clip of Curry sending Rudy Gay to stepback hell.
And Curry being a one-man transition force.
Draymond forces the issue and takes his man off the dribble. This opens up the corner 3 for Bazemore since Rudy Gay is lured over to help on the drive.
Excellent defense by Bazemore, immediately steps on the gas in transition and gets rewarded by JTA.
Warriors run their staple "head tap" set, involving flex action for Wiggins underneath the rim, then the screener (Curry) getting a zipper screen to go up top. That draws 2, so JTA is left wide open to roll inside for the layup.
Well whaddaya know, they run the same thing again... except in this one, they expedite the process by doing away with the flex cut/cross screen for Wiggins and go straight into the zipper screen for Curry. JTA knows Curry will get the attention, so he slips the screen. Easy dunk.
And that's a wrap.
Pretty good bounceback win for the Dubs. Turnovers really cost them the first game, but they managed to take care of the ball this time around w/ only 10 turnovers (they had 3 at the half).
I have to shout out Draymond Green on this one. 6-7-11 w/ 3 TOs.

Draymond caught a lot of flak for last game, some of it deserved, some not. But he didn't get flustered and just did what he always does: direct the defense and distribute the ball well.
Speaking of defense, the Warriors did much better this time: 91.0 DRTG according to NBA stats. Once Cleaning the Glass gets their game logs up, that number could be lower (since it eliminates garbage time).
