Thread: Today my 80 y/o mom said that she was irritated by the discussion in her Sunday school class. People were talking about how they were going to try to be antiracist. She said, "I don't say I'm going to try to bake a pie today.

You don't tell me you're going to try to do a good job at work today. I say I'm going to bake a pie today. We should say we are going to be antiracist." We might mess it up some days. We might get it wrong. 2/4
We learned a bunch of lies about Asians and Blacks and poor people and whites. Unlearning them takes work and time. But we aren't "going to try". We are going to do.

(Probably the only response is Yoda's wise words: There is no try only do.) 3/4
I'm really proud of my mom. White, from a relatively insular white religious community, but diving into the antiracist reading so that she can unlearn the lies. Asking the questions, thinking for herself. #antiracism #doit 4/4
