We on a mission to increase India's health insurance penetration from 10% to 90%+ by 2030. Yesterday was a proud moment for us as we took our own company's health policy. Here are some of the things I found out in the process
10% our team-members had requested their previous employers to continue to keep them on the previous company's health policy till "this new healthcare startup finally got around to getting its own health insurance policy" 😧
Adding parental cover makes the premium 2.5X, but the sense of safety it brings to team-members is worth it. I think it will do wonders for our team retention, by showing our team we truly care! One of our consultants joined us full-time as a result đŸ”„đŸ”„đŸ”„
Even after adding parents, we were able to get our team's health insurance done within a budget of 1-1.5% of the CTC. Its a no-brainer because you would easily increase your team's CTC by 5% to retain them, why not pre-empt it by covering them with health insurance on day one💡
You can reduce your premium by ~10% by adding a clause that 20% co-pay would apply on parental coverage. What this means is that if a parent is to make a claim of 3L, insurance would cover 80% or 2.4L and balance 20% or 60K would be out-of-pocket expense for the employee. 💾
Health insurance is never a priority as a founder of an early stage company. Even I kept deprioritizing making a decision and the payment. It took one of our team-members to keep asking at every standup for 4 consecutive days till I felt embarrassed enough...
...to fast track getting the policy. I'm very thankful to him for taking the onus on himself to do this. If you're a team-member at a startup, know that asking your founder to get health insurance for the team is single easiest way to get your entire team covered 🙂
If you're curious about the health insurance policy that @novabenefits has taken for it's team, just comment 'Interested' and I'll share detailed policy terms with you🙂 RT for good karma and to get more people covered!
