He lived in kanchanur. He was commander in chief of chola king. He owned agriculture lands too. He was wealthy commander in chief. He and his wife served shiva devotees with their wealth. He done various charities to Shiv devotees
He was childless for long but with shiva blessings he got girl child. Girl was named as punyavardhini. Girl grown into a beautiful lady. Her hair was long and beautiful. Her marriage fixed with another commander in chief eyarkon kalikamar. All were busy with marriage works.
Shiva dressed himself as mahavrat shivayogi with whole body smeared of ash. Long matted hair with trishul on his hands. And he worn skull garlands with yagyopavita made of human hair called Panchavati.Manarkanchara recieved him happily
but Shiv yogi asked for his girl's hair for his yagyopavita. Cutting girls hair during marriage is considered inauspicious but manarkanchara without hesitation & second thoughts cut his girls hair and gave it to yogi. Girl too was happy to help yogi with her hair. shiva satisfied
Yogi disappeared and shiva and Parvati was standing there they praised his devotion and blessed them. girl got her hair back. Bridegroom eyarkon kalikamar after receiving this news sad he missed darshan but was happy to be married to great shiva devotee.
They married and lived a happy life.
He was contemporary of sundarar murthy nayanar. His guru pooja is widely celebrated. His statue is present in every ancient temples of shiva. Sundarar in his verse sing glory of this nayanar in thiruthondar thogai
