Underneath my wheat stubble, it's still dry...cont
but that stubble remains after a beautiful wheat crop, it's doing an excellent job of protecting the soil from the sun, the heat & the potential for erosion from monsoonal storms that hit this region.
The decisions we make on farm now, not only benefit (or impact us) but those of next generations coming through....
Unfortunately it's getting a little late in the season now for summer crops without rain, however hopefully the wheat stubble will be direct drilled with some chickpeas for the winter.
I found that quote by Vance Crowe when applying for my Nuffield scholarship, it was quite relevant to my project about the role farmers play in determining our social licence, by genuine support in balancing the pillars of sustainability.
Because the solution requires us to invest in people, the agroecosystem in which we farm in, while continuing to be productive & profitable. Think big farmers!
