THREAD: I’m married to a school administrator, and I’m beginning to see our teachers hit a breaking point. I wish people could really understand what our teachers are doing during this pandemic. The stress they’re under right now is immense.
The fact that some kids are struggling while learning remotely weighs so heavily on them. And there are some parents who blame them for their kids’ struggles. They carry guilt because of it, even though it’s not their fault.
Listen, everyone is struggling in some way with this pandemic. People are frustrated, and teachers are getting the brunt of a lot of pent up frustration. They’re easy targets. It’s easy to blame the teacher if your kid isn’t doing well in class.
But I promise you the teachers are spending all of their time and energy to figure out how to close the gap with remote learners. They’re trying to make sure every student (remote or in-person) is on the right track, improving and meeting/exceeding standards.
I wish you could have heard the conversation between my wife and one of her teachers tonight. It would open your eyes to the incredible struggle they’re enduring right now.
If you know a teacher, please reach out to them. Ask how they’re doing. It will make their day. If they need to vent, let them. Be a sounding board. They care for your children like their own. They care *deeply,* and right now they need all the support you can give.
