The faster that reconstruction based polytheists understand that they’re experiencing hiraeth / siraxta, the faster they’ll be able to shed it, and connect to the here and now, enabling them to finally connect to bioregion specific spirits and gods.

After a good conversation with @wyrtgeard it keeps becoming abundantly clear that reconstruction is what gets worshipped and is why people live in their own heads, believing themselves to be an ancient xy or z.

Keep that cultural base, and use the language, but these aren’t your identities. You’re not that. Granted, we’ve taken the identity of Bolgoi in SB, and I have my region specific stuff. I’m not an ancient Gaul. I’m an American Bolgos, a Leitodubrācos. These are new things.

The siraxta is gone. All that’s left is the way. The faster you shed the longing and start living the way, the faster you come to completeness. We are new from the old.

Make no mistake: I’m not saying Reconstruction is useless. I’m saying the emotional attachment to the time periods one has at the beginning becomes an anchor eventually. It will drag you down. We see this with every person who leaves Heathenry.

They shed the anchor in sadness and longing for that feeling they once had in the beginning, and eventually become something else entirely, whether it be Catholic, Orthodox or Atheist. Only a few really transcend the need for that pinpoint in time and (continued)

How can one sit there saying “I wish I were worshipping gods in ancient xyz” when you’re already worshipping them NOW? You did it! You’ve won. You’re a new type of heathen/galatis/bolgos.

It’s hard to articulate that these identities are a side effect of ‘actions’ and not the point of it all.
