The disregard eastern mass has for western mass will never not infuriate me. We’re left without jobs, adequate health services, public transportation, a just covid response, and then people in boston joke we don’t exist. The jokes not funny when the government treats us that way.
The berkshires and the valley were crushed as industry left and left us with toxic pollution. The majority of rural areas have poor or no internet access. People ignore the gentrification of pittsfield, etc because it makes pretty houses for tourists to think of a “quaint” MA
Springfield/Holyoke/Chicopee’s majority Black and brown residents are quite literally choked to death by the pollution and lack of medical resources that make it the worst place in the nation to live with asthma and then arent even prioritized for the vaccine.
Mass vaccine and covid testing sites in western mass have largely required you to be able to drive to them, which is horrifically inaccessible considering there is basically no adequate public transport in western mass except between the 5 colleges (serving many non-locals!)
then our reps have to protest so that a polluting power plant in springfield isn’t added to the statewide climate bill. We literally supply boston’s water (though the quabbin is the extremes of what can be called wmass…) and we get little in return. I’m tired.
I’m glad to see people are finally upset after seeing seniors stand in the snow to wait for a covid vaccine they had scheduled an appointment for, but I need this level of anger at all the injustice that occurs in wmass due to negligence from eastern mass.
