One thought from Ajay Shah on the #TSATU podcast with @amitvarma rattles me: our current health issues, malnutrition, obesity & NCDs are a result of food & agri policies in the 60-70’s. We over-eat carbs because wheat and rice were pushed as “green revolution” to kick the economy
In Germany & West-Central Europe, pig production was pushed by the governments after the war to boost food intake and morale - people suffer from lots of cancer (mostly smoked meat related) and in the US, UK, France it was beef.
China upped its rice and wheat flour related production post the 60’s and is now suffering from obesity & NCD burden, similarly Mexico with Masa or maize flour excess and Cola consumption (cos bad ground water). #TheSeenAndTheUnseen
We suffer today cos our Govts messed up the last 50 yrs. When will they take accountability and start diversifying food production & agriculture to 1. Help farmers deal with climate change, 2. Help citizens lead healthier lives? #AhaMoment #AgricultureAffectsPublicHealth
Even more shocking : our parents don't have alternatives to staples they've been eating and most of us don't either. This means, another generation or two of children will suffer from NCDs, malnutrition and wrong eating, leading to bad quality of life + longevity. #LifeisStrange
