Online education in the humanities does one thing very well: we know how to introduce people to our endlessly fascinating topics in engaging ways.
But once they're finished with the introductory material, the quantity of content drops off rather sharply.
How do we address this?

How do we address this?
When you optimize for views, the temptation will always be to stick to introductory material. Beginners will always be the biggest audience.
The financial model for sustaining the production of intermediate/advanced material has to be different.

I think teaching advanced material in small classes is part of the answer.
But what else?
Do we need to be:
- Writing study guides or digital textbooks?
- Annotating classic works?
- Writing digests of recent journal articles?
- Supervising community research projects?

We will build academia-outside-academia bit by bit, by creativity, trial and error, and bricolage.
If you're interested in trying to figure this out alongside smart and interesting people (and me), I'm running a language-themed cohort of @hyperlink_a's Meta-Course starting later this month.
It's a focused course creation workshop. Curriculum here: https://hyperlink.academy/courses/the-meta-course/1/cohorts/75
