One of these days, I’m going to tell y’all the story of the very famous comedy producer who after a show, in which I bombed, got offended that I didn’t want to drive him to the airport the next morning and hit me in the face with a scarf when he turned around.
There was also another famous comedy producer that I got into with at a workshop, because he said my father IS a nice man and I said “He passed away” and he got an attitude and said “So I can’t say he’s nice?!” And I said “it would be past tense”, and he got mad.
Or the time I almost fought a table full of alabaster individuals at a show. And all the comedians later tried to say I got mad, because I was “rusty” and didn’t understand why I would have wanted to fight a Caucasian man for calling me a bitch while performing.
This is why I do my own shit though. I don’t have to kiss ass or be mistreated. I can control my content and for the most part, who I engage with.
The comedy industry is super janky and filled with a lot of hateful, insecure individuals. A lot of racist, sexist bookers.
Social media is the great equalizer though. So, do your own shit. Make your own lane. They’ll hate you. But they’ll book you and have to pay you double.
