Rating candidates is easier than ranking them.

We Rate things frequently:

1 Million doodle polls every daily
@YouTube likes and dislikes?

Restaurant ratings ...?

A Rating of candidates implies a ranking, not vice versa.
. @NobelPrize winner Kenneth Arrow famously proved that all ranking methods are prone to the spoiler effect.

Rating methods don't split the vote because the voter rates each candidate standalone.
No Spoilers!
No need to narrow the field via primaries & ballot access laws.
The simplest Rating vote method is #ApprovalVoting, where you can vote for as many candidates as you wish and the candidate with the most votes wins. It's so simple that ballot spoilage is de minimis.

In contrast, it's tough to explain ranked choice fully in one tweet!
Cost is important when considering #ElectionReform, especially during this #COVID19 recession.
#ApprovalVoting does not require new voting machines or equipment.
So approval voting is essentially free, unlike ranked methods.

Ranking several candidates is hard.
Filling out an RCV ballot is hard.
Determining the RCV winner is hard.
Explaining RCV results is hard.
Believing RCV results is hard!

Plurality only lets you pick one, so all candidates vie in a tug-of-war over your one vote, splitting it

Ranking only lets you pick one 1st choice, so all vie for that spot
Then the losers fight to be your 2nd choice, then 3rd

Ranking is just repeated plurality
