So, ignoring the governmental events for the moment, I have a question.
It is assumed that it is more desirable for an adult American to sit in a cubicle and type than for the same American to work on or in the soil for hers subsistence.
The path is time/effort->money->food.
2. A path of time/effort->food is contemptible. That, my friends, is the accursed Subsistence Agriculture. And it is by definition contemptible when compared to driving in an Interstate Highway to go sit in a cubicle and type and talk on the phone.
3. In order to properly type or talk on the phone, humans need special training, which other humans provide to them in terms of debt slavery, not unlike one of the routes to this earthly paradise from Europe.
The skill set which it requires to interact comfortably with Earth,
4. And obtain from her your needs in food, fuel, and fiber, without going through the medium of money - that skill is contemptible.
I used to chat with a guy, but the day he realized I advocated Subsistence Agriculture he dropped me like a hot potato and has never spoken since.
5. My view is exactly opposite his. I believe that every piece of "renewable energy" built infrastructure that goes in makes the global ecosystem directly worse by its building and installation, and the more, bigger, and faster we build it the sooner we hit 3° and rising.
6. And the reason we can't do it is because it is more desirable, more attractive, more fun, more rewarding, to walk the aisles at Home Depot for 50 hours a week than to do it in your large back yard.
I don't believe it.
7. We can arrange our economy any way we choose. We choose to pay large young men millions of dollars a year to play football. We choose to enable Jeff Bezos to have some hog-choking number of billions of dollars for sending us stuff. We could arrange our economy so that
8. every family could live on five or six acres with a couple donkeys, and all in an economic community as have existed before, produce all the food, fiber, and fuel that all the people needed.
No place has to be crowded.
No place has to be lonely.
Nobody has to be hungry.
9. We have been taught that what I just described is contemptible. Nobody would make that sacrifice, to go from sitting on the Interstate for an hour every morning in order to sit in a cubicle and type on a keyboard so they could sit on the Interstate for an hour in the afternoon
10. And consent to the misery of having to walk half a mile to the bakery for a loaf of fresh bread.
Too much sacrifice.
11. And I'm the one who has to defend his crazy ideas.
And the other way makes climate change. And mass extinction. And loss to access to water. And it's topheavy and fragile. And everybody is hysterical about a job.
Somebody explain to me. Like I'm a five year old. I don't...🤷
