This Government is happy spending millions on “Australian” fuel reserves in Europe and America – but it does not build local reserves. It has allowed our refining capacity be shipped offshore. #auspol
The Commonwealth is responsible for fuel security in Australia, but on this government’s watch two refineries announce that they will leave Australia. In the middle of a pandemic, this will seriously damage our sovereign capabilities.
The loss of the oil refinery at #Altona is not just about fuel and the 350 workers employed there.
This closure will affect #manufacturing in Western Melbourne. Chemical manufacturers rely on refined oil as a feed stock and will be hit hard. #auspol
It’s simple – to increase our national fuel security, we need to increase our national fuel stocks here and maintain our refining capacity in Australia, by Australians.
But the Liberals don’t get that.
