2000-01 Ray Allen Season

Thread
This was Ray's 5th season and it was quite easily one of his best seasons of his career

Ray would play all 82 RS games and put up these numbers leading the Bucks to a 50-32 Record

22.0 PPG 5.2 RPG 4.6 APG 1.5 SPG
48.0 FG% 43.3 3p% (5.2 3pa) 88.8 FT%
That season Ray led Milwaukee to a 50 win season for the first time since 1986-87

Ray Allen, Sam Cassell and Glenn Robinson formed a formidable trio and turned Milwaukee into one of the best teams in the league that year
That season, Ray Allen showed out against the elites of the league

Against 50 win teams Ray elevated his game and put up these numbers while leading Milwaukee to a 13-8 Record

23.5 PPG 5.5 RPG 5.1 APG 1.5 SPG
50.4 FG% 52.2 3p% 86.1 FT%
On 12th Dec 2000, Ray Allen would drop 35 Points and get the win against Shaq and Kobe Lakers on the Road
This is where Ray ranked among Shooting Guards in statistical categories that season

PPG - 5th
APG - Tied 5th
SPG - Tied 6th
3p% - 2nd (Behind Brent Barry)
3pm - 1st with 202 (2nd in the league in general behind Antoine Walker)

Ray was pretty much top 5 everywhere
Ray Allen's great play would reward him a 2nd straight All-Star Selection

Ray would score 15 Points in the ASG

Ray would also participate and win the 3 Point Contest during the 01 All-Star Weekend
Ray won the 3 Point Contest in style hitting 10 straight shots down the stretch to win in the Final round over Peja Stojakovic
on 7th Feb 2001, Ray Allen posted his first Triple Double of his career posting 20 pts 10 reb 11 ast against the Celtics
Correction, the Bucks were 52-30 not 50-32
When Ray Allen was on the floor the Bucks had an ORTG of 109.9 (Best in the League) and when he was off their ORTG was 102.2 (Would be in the middle of the league) having a NET RTG of +7.7 when he was ON compared to when he was OFF the court
Ray had 3 40 Point Games that season and they all came against Playoff teams (Minnesota, Sixers and Jazz)
on 26 Feb, 2001 Ray Allen would drop 42 Points against the #1 Seeded Sixers who were also a top 5 Defense on RIDICULOUS 17/23 Shooting and 6/8 from 3
on 12 April, 2001 Ray would drop a season high 43 Points and nail 8 Threes against the Jazz. This performance would get Milwaukee their 50th win of the season

- His other 40 pt game was 40 Points against Minnesota early in the season
Ray Allen's great Regular Season play would reward him his first career All-NBA Team Selection as he made the 3rd Team All-NBA
Onto the Playoffs

After B2B Round 1 eliminations to Indiana, this year was different and there was serious expectations for Ray and the 2nd seeded Milwaukee

In the 1st Round they would face Tracy McGrady and the Orlando Magic
Ray's Numbers vs Orlando

24.5 PPG 5.8 RPG 5.3 APG 2.5 SPG
55.0 FG% 57.1 3p% 92.3 FT%

He had an insanely efficient series leading Milwaukee to a 3-1 Series Win
Allen's most memorable moment from that series was actually in the Game 3 Loss

He would drive and dunk on Tracy McGrady to force Overtime
After losing Game 3, Ray would drop 26 Points on 9/13 Shooting and 2/2 from 3 in Game 4 to close out the series
In the 2nd Round, Milwaukee would play 6 Seeded Hornets

Bucks were clear favourites, but Hornets were coming off a series where they completely destroyed the 3 seeded Heat looking extremely dangerous
Ray vs Hornets in 01

23.4 PPG 4.0 RPG 7.0 APG 1.1 SPG
45.4 FG% 42.0 3p% 86.2 FT%

The Bucks would overcome the Hornets in 7 Games
Ray started the series well scoring 26 and 28 in Games 1 and 2 to give the Bucks a 2-0 Series Lead, however his play over the next 3 games wasn't great averaging 19.7 on 37% which led the Bucks to going down 2-3 and facing elimination in Game 6 Charlotte
In Game 6, Milwaukee's BIG 3 would score 85 Points

Ray would score 23 on 53% and hit this clutch go ahead 3 with under 30 Seconds left which proved to be the game winner and it forced Game 7
in Game 7, Ray would drop 28 Points on 10/18 Shooting and the Bucks would beat the Hornets 104-95 to go to their first Conference Finals since 1986
In the 2001 Eastern Conference Finals, Ray Allen and the Bucks would go up against the #1 Seeded Sixers and the MVP Allen Iverson
Ray was incredible in the 2001 ECF

27.1 PPG 3.3 RPG 5.4 APG
46.8 FG% 50.9 3p% 96.8 FT%

The Bucks would lose a very controversial series in 7 Games though
In the 3 Wins that series, Ray Allen averaged 33 Points Per Game on 49/57/94% Shooting Splits
Ray had 3 total 30 Point Games in 01 Playoffs and all 3 of those came in the Eastern Conference Finals

Although the Bucks lost the series, it's hard to argue against the fact that individually Ray Allen outplayed the MVP of the league
Ray would start the series with a 31 Point performance in G1 but it wasn't enough

So in Game 2, Ray stepped his game up even more dropping 38 Points on 15/24 Shooting and 7/11 from 3 taking Home court advantage
Ray would drop 20/5/5 in Game 3 and the Bucks would take a 2-1 Series Lead. It really started to look like Milwaukee were going to win the series

However, a sloppy 14 point Game 4 performance from Ray and questionable officiating cost Milwaukee Game 4
In Game 5, Ray would score 20 on 8/20 shooting but Milwaukee would lose a heartbreaker by 1 point

However, in Game 6 Ray would have his first 40 point game of his Playoff career when he dropped 41 and nailed 9 threes to force Game 7
in G7 Ray would post 26/6 on 44/57/100% Splits, however Allen Iverson would drop 44 and the Sixers would win a very controversial series in 7 Games

It was a heart-breaking end to an amazing season for Ray Allen and the Bucks who were just 1 win away from the Finals
Ray's Overall 2001 Playoff Run Numbers

25.1 PPG 4.1 RPG 6.0 APG 1.3 SPG

Road
25.6 PPG 3.7 RPG 5.9 APG
50.9 FG% 50.0 3p% 96.2 FT%
This is where Ray ranked among SGs in the Playoffs (Min 10 Games Played)

3rd in PPG
3rd in APG
5th in SPG
1st in 3p%
1st in 3pm (57)
- also 1st in 3pm in the league entirely
Ray Allen scored 20 or more points in 15 of the 18 Playoff games

Only Allen Iverson had more 20 point games than Ray in the 01 Playoffs with Ray being tied 2nd with Shaq
When Ray Allen was on the floor the Bucks had a 110.4 ORTG and when he sat on the bench they had a 85.5 ORTG (+24.9 NET RTG with Ray on the floor!) in the 2001 Playoffs
Ray was easily a top 5 Guard in the league in 00-01. He had a great Regular Season and followed up with incredible play in the Playoffs nearly taking Milwaukee to the Finals
