Twitter can be such a cesspool so I had deactivated my account a few months ago. I found it important to come back online to lend my voice to #FarmersProtest

I’m kinda surprised at the lack of conversation surrounding this on my feed. Are people just not aware? Is it apathy?
This is one of the largest protests that has ever taken place in human history and people in the west don’t seem to be too concerned. Maybe it’s just ignorance due to the Indian government’s efforts to suppress information. But I’ll share what I can here.
These are all the protests that are taking place in India. The main focus has been on the protests in New Delhi, which is the capital.

Indian media has made Sikhs the face of these protests in an attempt to divide the nation.
The other reason why Punjabi Sikh farmers have become the face of the protest is because they’ve been among some of the most vocal. Punjab’s livelihood comes from farming.
Despite covering less than 2% of India’s geographical area, Punjab makes up for about 15–20% of India's wheat production, around 12% of its rice production, and around 10% of its milk production.

Punjab is known as the breadbasket of India.
After Punjabi Sikhs became the face of the protest, Modi’s government took no time to brand them as Khalistani terrorists. This was pretty simple because Hindu supremacy is never lurking too far from the surface in India. It is easy to prey on people’s biases and intolerance.
Sikhs are a visible minority in India. This made it easy for them to be blamed for the protests. The Indian media has taken this narrative and run with it. They forget about all the Hindu farmers who are also protesting the government.
So this isn’t a Sikh protest. Why am I talking so much about Sikhs?

Well it’s because our people are being targeted. Violence has erupted many times at these protests. People are missing. People have died. They’ve been pelted with rocks.
The anti-Sikh narrative promoted by the Indian media has emboldened Hindu Supremacists. Some are even calling for genocide.

This is a famous Indian actress who is pretty much calling for Sikh genocide. She doesn’t mention us by name in this tweet but she has in other tweets.
The Indian government is doing its best to suppress the voices of protestors. They have routinely turned off the internet in entire regions so that protestors cannot make their voices heard on large platforms.
. @Twitter has allegedly succumbed to the demands of the Indian government and has been removing accounts of people like myself who are speaking out in support of #FarmersProstests

But Twitter has no problem with @KanganaTeam inciting violence and calling for genocide.
. @Twitter has no problem hosting @narendramodi who is basically Trump’s ideological twin brother. He is responsible for inciting violence against Muslims in the past that has led to thousands of deaths.
The Indian government is engaging in what I consider to be fascist tactics. They’ve started to arrest/investigate/charge prominent figures who are speaking out. This is why most of Bollywood is silent. They’re afraid of being thrown in jail for made-up allegations.
Take a look at what the Indian government is doing to Diljit Dosanjh. He is a Punjabi singer and actor who has been vocal in support of farmers. Now he is being investigated for bogus allegations of illicit financial activity.
. @Rihanna and @GretaThunberg have brought attention to the #farmersrprotest. Indian media decided to spread conspiracy theories about them being “Khalistani terrorists” along with Jagmeet Singh, who want to cede Indian territory to China. (What the actual fuck??)
What I’m most afraid of is violence against my people and others who are peacefully protesting.

There was Sikh genocide in India in 1984. There are so many things happening right now that are reminiscent of the circumstances that preceded 1984.
I want to implore everyone to learn about what’s happening in India, and more importantly, to speak about it. Raise awareness. Show support.

International dialogue may force the Indian government’s hand. They will realize that their efforts to suppress our voices aren’t working
Most of the time when we feel strongly about a cause we’re able to donate a few bucks and feel better about ourselves. That’s not the case here. These farmers don’t want your money. There is nothing to donate to. They want solidarity.
