Incredibly frustrating that at tonights Education & Children's Services committee that the Conservatives voted to block a group of Independent and Voluntary Nursery Heads coming and talking to us about the funding challenges their sector faces due to the pandemic.
When community groups request to make a deputation to their elected officials it should be a bare minimum that we give them their 5minutes. If we can't even do that when people reach out to use their democratic institutions then how are we meant to increase participation/scrutiny
This is a deeply worrying trend by the Wandsworth Conservatives, who at a number of committees have now blocked people from being able to speak. In a meeting you can make a bit of noise about it but online it can get rammed through.
I personally know very well how infuriating this can be, the first time I ever set foot in the Town Hall was to see a deputation (at the very committee I now sit on) regarding the Tories decision to sell off my schools playground. They voted to block the deputation then.
I joined the Labour Party not long after.
