Education is the sector that will change most fundamentally post-COVID.

Five trends I'm finding interesting are:

1️⃣ Tutoring Marketplaces
2️⃣ Edutainment
3️⃣ Business-in-a-Box Platforms
4️⃣ Reskilling Workers
5️⃣ Unbundling College

👇👇👇👇👇👇👇👇👇
1) Of the 5 most-valuable education startups in the world, 4 are tutoring businesses. All 4 are in China & India.

Only 2% of U.S. household income is spent on supplemental education vs. 40% in China.

COVID will drive a meaningful uptick in U.S. spend & P2P tutoring models.
2) The lines between education and entertainment will continue to blur.

This accelerated during the pandemic, with more kids watching YouTube & playing Roblox & Minecraft.

Established startups like @duolingo & newer startups like @playhellosaurus will continue this trend.
3) More students & teachers will forego traditional schools for all-in-one solutions.

This could be K-12 with @outschool or homeschooling with @withprimer.

These platforms will remove complexity & improve opportunity (both $$ & knowledge-sharing) for both teachers & learners.
4) There’s a consistent mismatch between skills taught & skills demanded by the job marketplace.

Closing the skills gap could add $11.5 trillion to global GDP by 2028.

New startups are tackling this with innovative solutions that make education more lifelong & job-relevant.
5) We'll see the "unbundling" of college:

The most privileged Americans will continue to go to college, but for many Americans, the cost of college will be untenable.

These Americans will learn skills through online providers, while finding community through other mediums.
The word “learning” better fits where the world is going than the word “education”.

Learning is ongoing & flexible & increasingly happens beyond school walls.
