So here’s what I concluded from this half / formation:
The back 3 consists of Nacho, Varane and Mendy, it’s interchangeable as Casemiro often drops in, so Mendy pushes up wide and Marcelo moves into the inside left half-space, that often happens when the pressure is low

Marcelo’s role in the left half-space is to:
A) Offer a passing lane centrally to Casemiro
B) Being a stress-reliever for Modrić as he’ll maintain the number in mid-field
C) Be a natural ball-progressing option

I have also noticed that Marcelo never urges to run back to retain the ball, this is partially due to the extra man in defence, we’re practically safe on counters
Benzema often made runs in the central spaces to also progress the ball, especially when Casemiro’s making forward runs to maintain balance and to be a natural linker between dots in the final third
