Blaming #Eagles fans for everything is a lazy tradition. I spoke to several national reporters at the Super Bowl to set the record straight. You’ll probably see some of that information trickled out as “sources said” but that’s another story. ...
Fans do NOT create the narrative. They react to media reports. The media, with some exceptions, do NOT fabricate stories. They report what they are told by sources.
Sources often feed media false info to push a narrative they want to drive. It’s up to each reporter given that information to determine the legitimacy of it and whether they want to report it. Some outlets have accountability. Some don’t.
Personally, I must run every anonymous source by a boss. We have strict standards at AP and I often don’t report much of what I know because of those standards. I’m fine with it. Credibility, truth and accuracy matters to me.
Sure, fans can be outrageous. I see the trolling. It’s awful nasty at times. But they’re reacting to a narrative created by sources who use the media to push their agenda. Stop blaming fans. Stop blaming media unless they knowingly report false information from a source.
