THREAD: An examination of Dazzler's style during her first tenure with the X-Men.

Given her career as a popstar, it should surprise no one that fashion plays an important role in the visual storytelling of the mutant songstress. 1/
When Dazzler joined the X-Men, she was one of four female members on the team. Statistically, she appears out of costume more than teammates Psylocke and Rogue. This implies that being an X-Man is merely one part of her, rather than her entire identity. 2/
As a superhero, Dazzler almost always appears in cool colours (silver and blue). When she's just being Alison, she gravitates towards warm tones. Not only that, but she very rarely wears shorts or pants. She's a dress/skirt girl. 3/
In UXM # 244, Ali initiates a shopping trip with Storm, Psylocke, and Carol Danvers (in Rogue's body). In this issue, she appears in three separate looks. These include a red two piece skirt combo, a pink romper, and a blue belted dress with cowboy boots. 4/
Fashion is also used to highlight how athletic Ali is. She's shown working out, roller blading, going for runs, and surfing. It's through her character that artists get to showcase activewear popular from that era. 5/
The X-Men's Lightengale really brought style and flare to the team during a decade known for its wild fashions. She really should be considered one of Marvel's most fashion-oriented characters alongside Storm, Emma Frost, and Janet Van Dyne. Fin. 🙏🏻✨
BONUS: Before Dazzler disappeared into obscurity during the '90s after the X-books replaced her with younger copycat characters (Boom Boom and Jubilee 💁🏼‍♀️), she had one final fashion moment. It was a Peggy Bundy-esque look courtesy of Jim Lee.
