Many years ago I was getting divorced and felt sad and hopeless. So I went to see a doctor. This was in the north Scotland and this guy was a proper country farmer doctor: ✅Skin like ham
✅Intimidatingly large hands
✅Beard
I said to him: I feel sad and hopeless. What do I do?
And he said to me: "Well you could do therapy. Or talk to someone. There's medication. Or, you could do nothing."

NOTHING?🤔

"Yes. Nothing. Your body can only feel this bad for so long. It's not possible to sustain this. You'll be okay in a few months."
Turns out, he was right. I did start to feel better. And the sadness and hopelessness thawed.

I often think about this man, this ham with a beard, and I wonder if he gave me good or terrible advice that day?

It's probably bad advice, isn't it? But I guess I always come back
to the message at the center of it: You are resilient. Your body is resilient. So's yer brain. You can weather this storm.

You can not find this man on ZocDoc, but in these trying times just buy a big ol' ham and recite these words over and over.
"You could do nothing. You could do nothing. You could do nothing."

Actually, don't do that. But if you do feel bad, definitely talk to someone. And, I guess, also buy a ham.
