Bless @RepRaskin for talking about the impact of this trial on the Capitol staff, maintenance crews, and all of their families. Listening to him talk about his daughter Tabitha and his son in law- the effect of the trauma is so long and wide-ranging. That MATTERS.
I talk a lot about my father, who fled a military dictatorship and had to watch this country, his adopted country, lapse into the same. As a child, I didn't know why he woke up screaming. We called them his "episodios." His trauma, now ours.
When I became a teacher and had to tuck my two year olds into a dark corner to practice active shooter drills, I had my own nightmares, about tiny bodies, guns, my own reactions not enough to save them. My trauma, compounded. Isn't it time we do something to stop the trauma?
That's what we're asking with this impeachment trial. Some end to the trauma. A statement, a decision that enough really, finally is enough. We need that- we deserve that.
