Welcome back to 'Aventuras de Las Americas', our weekly odyssey across South and Central America.

An assortment of all the developments, drama and downright oddities from Mexico all the way down to Argentina.

We start this week with the opening weekend of the Apertura in the Paraguayan Primera División, where Guaraní’s 2-2 draw with Nacional was the pick of the games.

Two red cards, an own goal and goalkeeper Gaspar Servio slotting home a penalty and celebrating like a seasoned forward.

What more do you need?

In the Brasileirão, Flamengo could only manage a 1-1 draw against Bragantino, knowing that a win would’ve taken them top of the league, for a few days at least.

We wonder what Souness would’ve made of Gabigol’s new hair.
Further north, Mexican Apertura champions León were beaten 1-3 at home to Chivas last night, a game which featured this certified #Golazo from right-back Chapo Sanchez.

In Argentina, Hernán Crespo left his role as manager of Defensa y Justicia just a week before the opening game of the new season, and just a few weeks after leading them to a Copa Sudamericana title.

The rumours are rife as to his next job, with floundering São Paulo FC and the Chilean national team reported to be keen on his appointment.

Across the border in Uruguay, a less-than-classic Superclasico between Penarol and Nacional, which still managed to yield two red cards, was followed by much more eventful games for both sides.

Here’s 21-year-old Brian Ocampo displaying straight up disrespect in Nacional’s 3-0 win over River Plate.

Meanwhile, Penarol beat Boston River 2-1 in an emotional game.

Fabián Estoyanoff dedicated his outstanding volley to ex-Nacional and Godoy Cruz forward Santiago ‘Morro’ Garcia, who had tragically died a few days earlier.

Godoy Cruz announced their intention to retire the number 18 shirt in his honour. A wonderful tribute for a heartbreaking story.

Hasta siempre Morro.

Nacional fans came out in their masses to pay their respects to Morro, wearing their colours and flying their flags. A beautiful tribute and send off.

A special mural has also been crafted on the outskirts of Los Céspedes.

In Costa Rica, two of the ‘big three’ teams from the capital San Jose faced each other in the final of the CONCACAF League.
Alajuelense, featuring Costa Rican legend and ex-Fulham player Bryan Ruiz, beat Saprissa 3-2 in a thrilling final in San Jose, feat. a peach of a free-kick from Yurgiun Roman.

Alajuelense fans celebrated with flares. Lots of flares.

Alajuelense and the next five best teams qualified for the CONCACAF Champions League, who’s competition draw takes place tomorrow in Miami.

Current CONCACAF champions Tigres advanced all the way to the final of the FIFA Club World Cup by virtue of honourary-Mexican André-Pierre Gignac.

It is the first time a CONCACAF Club has ever reached the final of this tournament.
We’ll be rooting for the Mexican side as they take on Bayern at the Education City Stadium in Qatar on Thursday.

¡Esto es Tigres!
With the final games to be played in Chile, a knife-edge title race nearing a conclusion in Brazil and the opening weekend of the Primera División in Argentina, next week's Aventura is shaping up to be a cracker.

¡Hasta la siguiente semana!
