Republican Senators who vote to acquit Donald Trump will have enshrined the “January exception” that @RepRaskin and @JoeNeguse have so eloquently described: meaning the next Donald Trump or Trump himself could commit impeachable offenses in their final January to stay in office.

And based on Republican Senators’ previous acquittal of Trump; that future president could go to a foreign power, get their help overthrowing our democracy, call domestic or even foreign paramilitary forces to storm the Capitol to decapitate the government and never leave office.

Republican Senators, as of today, are highly likely to affirm just that, because some of them style themselves as that future, unremovable president. Let that sink in.
