[thread re: dealing with recruiters]

If you're ever contacted by a recruiter about a gamedev job and they don't specify the company (which happens way more than it should), you can look up listings from their recruiting company on sites like https://www.gamesjobsdirect.com/

1/x
They usually list the location of the job in the listing, even if they don't mention the company, so you can then narrow it down further by using a website like https://www.gamedevmap.com/  or https://gamecompanies.com/map

2/x
Here's an example:

I received an email from a recruiter through LinkedIn, but they didn't specify the company. All they said was it's a 60+ person company, it's AAA, and it's in LA.

By going to their LinkedIn profile, I can see they work for Skillsearch Limited

That knowledge in hand, I can search for the position (Senior Character Artist in this case, and make sure the wording is exact) on job websites and find anything that matches.

In this case, it says they're in El Segundo.

Now I can sift through a few options in the El Segundo area that match what I'm looking for.

If you want to dig in deep, you can go to the individual websites for these companies and find the listing on their career pages.

After digging through this info and finding out if it's a place I'm interested in, I can then inquire directly.

If I know anyone who works there, I can shoot them a message asking about company culture, and I can cut out the recruiter who's just trying to butter me up.

Addendum:

Recruiters often copy and paste blurbs from company websites into their recruiting emails. In this case, I'm about 99% sure this listing is the same as one on a company website I visited.
