The Cumbria Council decision to backtrack on a new coal mine has nothing to do with 'new information' and everything to do with the power of people getting organised
This is very obvious since there is, in fact, no information that tells us anything new about why the mine was a terrible idea – all that information already existed and has for many years
So what changed? People got louder and more organised in their opposition to the mine, with youth strikers driving the push (as per, tbh)
And movements did what movements do: start pushing from all angles on any possible point of pressure, often in a chaotic and disorganised way that doesn't seem like it's working until it does
*People* forced this backtrack, and it will be *people* who stop the mine for good. Anyone that says otherwise is just trying to save face 🤠
Special shoutouts to @CoalActionUK who have been supporting communities fighting coal for *years* and to strikers like @elijahmckenzee for bringing the power 🥳💪
