Okay, I'm sick of seeing this shit, so Imma make a thread on it.

Please stop running on up to Adventure fans saying that in criticizing newer games, they are the same as Classic "purists". This is flawed for numerous reasons I've talked about in passing, but let's do it again.
1. Actually evaluate what it means to be a "purist." Not every fan whose favorite Sonic games are on the Genesis will be someone who says everything else is unacceptable. Likewise, you're basically saying these Adventure fans will ONLY accept Adventure 1 and 2. ... Right.
Certainly these people EXIST, this is undeniable. But the fact of the matter is that after SA2, there were big changes on a game-by-game basis. And many of them are ones I and others are fine with. You wouldn't like it if YOU were placed into a camp with no nuance, would you?
2. Saying that the jump from 2000s Sonic to 2010s Sonic is the same thing as the jump from the Classics to "our precious Adventure games" is... a little reductive towards context.

One of these is the jump from a 16-bit console to... the Dreamcast.

And one of these is not.
I'm sorry that I'm cursed to speak as someone who was only just born then, but the jump to 3D was pretty changing for most franchises. Even Ocarina of Time has a sizeable share of 30-year-old detractors in retrospect, and that game took strides to be as faithful as possible.
This does NOT mean that criticism drawn towards the Adventure games is invalid. However, I think it's a little unfair to compare a time when changes were inevitably going to happen due to technology to a time where changes are made from a more critical mindset.
3. In writing everyone off as "old farts", you encourage SEGA to keep drastically changing the identity of the series because anyone who disagrees with it is labeled an idiot. There can be no wrong done because new kids will like it! ... But then what's the point of anything?
Furthermore, when you do this, you equate fairly normal individuals to the ACTUAL toxic people who will bully and berate fans for enjoying what they enjoy. It is textbook opinion gatekeeping, and it will harm your own outlook on people too.
Finally: Instead of "owning" someone in a gut reaction, please take time to just think about how one might counter your statements, and have a good discussion about it. You look a lot less triggered than you would rolling out the red carpet for your video game opinion chariot.
